Move on from Ice and Unpredictable Results with the LIVERguard Donor Liver Preservation System

The Paragonix LIVERguard™ Donor Liver Preservation System is an FDA cleared and CE marked preservation device for donor liver transportation.

The first-of-its-kind preservation method is a major advancement over the current ice and cooler practice used today. The LIVERguard incorporates the Paragonix proprietary cooling technology to ensure thermal stability up to 40 hours for all donor livers while providing a rigid and protective structure for physical safety.

All these features are offered alongside a state-of-the-art app that connects to the LIVERguard via bluetooth for on-the-go monitoring.

Caution: Federal (US) law restricts this device to sale by or in the order of a licensed health care practitioner. Please refer to Instructions for Use for full prescribing information. Cleared indication is for 15-hour use. Patents issued and pending. See Indications For Use for more information.

Lightweight shipper system is validated for a consistent thermal environment for over 40 hours.

Liver Icon Monitoring

Real-time monitoring and data reporting with the Paragonix App via Bluetooth® enables connected communication among donor and recipient transplant teams.

Rigid tray and rack structure encapsulates triple bag isolation system, providing added
protection from physical and thermal trauma.

Liver Icon Cooling

Prevent exposure to excessive temperature reduction utilizing proprietary SherpaCool™ phase change technology.

Cold Ischemic Time Matters

Donor liver preservation and cold ischemic time are known factors contributing to early allograft dysfunction (EAD), lower first year graft survival, and prolonging length of stay.1-3 Despite this, the current standard of care preservation includes uncontrolled cooling with ice and no temperature monitoring to ensure organs are maintained within target ranges.

What the clinical data says about Ice Storage

“Temperatures below 1°C are reached only 40 minutes after insertion of graft in the transport cool [ice] box.”4

Clinical evidence has shown sub-zero temperatures can generate

“Indissoluble particles in preservation solutions may potentially cause thrombosis and occlusion of vessels, in addition to injury to endothelial cells.”5

Indications for Use

The Paragonix LIVERguard™ Donor Liver Transport System is intended to be used for the static hypothermic preservation of livers during transportation and eventual transplantation into a recipient using cold storage solutions indicated for use with donor livers.

The intended organ storage time for the LIVERguard™ system is up to 15 hours.

Donor livers exceeding clinically accepted static hypothermic preservation times should be evaluated by the transplant surgeon to determine transplantability in accordance with accepted clinical guidelines and in the best medical interest of the intended recipient.

Note: A partial liver can be transported via the LIVERguard™ System by packaging liver per institutional protocol and UNOS guidelines.
